Extended 2018 dates now available – see Calendar for details
We are pleased to announce that this year we have been able to extend the opening dates for tours of the Castle to cover most of the season from April to October. There will be a maximum of one tour per day which will include the trip over the water to the Castle in our new boat and a personal guided tour of the castle provided by a member of the Stewart Allward family who are the present owners of the Castle. Please note that the new boat has seating for up to 12 passengers and that therefore the size of each tour is limited to that number. You should allow up to two hours for the tour, including the boat trips.
Bookings must be made in advance and can be arranged by email or by telephone, the contact number being 01631 730354.
Tour prices for 2018 are £20 for adults and £10 for children under 16 with Family Tickets available for £50 ( 2 adults and up to 3 children )
Please note that for logistical reasons it is not possible to accommodate wheelchairs or coach parties. Visitors should also be aware that access requires the ability to get in and out of a boat and negotiate numerous steps both in and around the Castle.
Should you arrive early for your tour, or be ready for a warm drink and bite to eat after braving the crossing, we recommend you visit the Castle Stalker View café with its panoramic views of Castle Stalker and Loch Linnhe, its friendly staff, and excellent food! Please note however that to reach the Castle boathouse you must continue along the road – it cannot be reached direct from the cafe!
Alternatively, if your tour finishes after 4pm, we can recommend a visit to The Old Inn where you will be able to experience yet more friendly staff and excellent food and drink in an authentic 18th century setting and warm yourself by an open fire.
The Castle is situated in Appin on the A828 between Ballachulish and Connel, just north of Oban. Using the Castle Stalker View Café in Appin as your starting point, travel southwards (right turn on leaving the café) down the steep hill. At the foot of the hill, turn right at the sharp lefthand bend just before The Old Inn ( the white two storey building ) and follow the lane round to the left to the car park. Then walk down the path to the cycle track and turn right where you will find the boathouse about 30 metres along on your left.
If coming from Oban, drive through Appin until you come to a row of cottages at the end of which is The Old Inn. Turn left at the sharp bend at the foot of a steep hill and follow the track round to the car park as above.
*NB All tours are subject to tide and weather conditions.
